Background

The School of Psychology and Public Health at La Trobe University and Carlton Football Club are seeking a talented individual who is looking to expand their career horizons with a post-graduate research degree within the Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Research Focus Area.

The successful candidate will undertake their research while also working in the wellbeing department in an elite sporting environment. The successful candidate will work with their supervisory panel and in collaboration with the Club Psychologist at Carlton FC to conduct high-quality research focused on athlete mental wellbeing. In addition to their research activities, the successful candidate will be involved in the delivery of an evidence-based wellbeing support program to Carlton FC players, coaches, and staff under the direction of the Club Psychologist and Wellbeing and Engagement Manager.

Are you eligible to apply?

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must:

- have a Masters by research degree in a relevant discipline completed within the last ten years assessed at a La Trobe Masters by research standard of 75 or above; or
- have an Honours degree, Masters by coursework or ungraded Masters by research degree completed within the last ten years where you achieved a weighted average mark of 70 or above across any coursework subjects; AND any of the following assessed at a La Trobe Masters by research standard of 75 or above:

  • a research thesis of approximately 15,000-20,000 words; or
  • the degree includes a written research component comprising at least 3/8 of one year; or
  • you are the lead author of a peer-reviewed publication or other research published within the last ten years

Recipients of the scholarship shall be selected by the University based on their:

Essential:
  • Ability to effectively communicate and build strong interpersonal relationships, and work and integrate into a multi-disciplinary team
  • A high level of motivation, initiative and self-directed learning
  • Ability to consistently work to high professional standards, and capable of working unsupervised and being professionally accountable
  • Ability to embrace change and accept the challenges associated with a dynamic working environment.
  • Understanding of ethical issues in sport settings, and competence in how to appropriately communicate and manage ethical obligations.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated experience working in elite sport or a high-performance environment.
  • Competence to transform research findings into policy and program development under supervision.
