Background

The Crooke family has called Gundowring home since 1947. The name Gundowring is based on an Indigenous word believed to mean "deep". It was home to an indigenous group, possibly the Duduroa Clan, until the mid-19th century. While little is known of their identity or way of life, the Crooke family wish to acknowledge them as the original custodians of this land with the Gundowring Indigenous Scholarship. This scholarship aims to support a local Indigenous undergraduate at La Trobe University. It does so in recognition of the impacts of colonisation of Indigenous peoples in this country, and the Crooke family's belief in the value of education.
