La Trobe University uses a process called Enterprise Risk Management, or ERM, to manage key issues facing the University.
The key issues are "big picture" items that present major risks or exposures that could put La Trobe in jeopardy. The ERM process enables La Trobe to address risks in a comprehensive, intentional manner.
The ERM process helps La Trobe manage risks that could be strategic and significantly influence business objectives. Risk management minimises exposures and highlights opportunities, which could negatively impact the business.
Risk is: the chance of something happening that will have an impact on objectives'. Risk management should be applied to all levels of the University, in both the strategic and operational contexts, to specific projects, decisions and recognised risk areas.
Everyone in the University is responsible for managing risk taking – so be familiar with the processes for assessing, managing and escalating business risks. Talk to your line manager or the Risk Office if you need any advice or support.
