Abstract

Single Session and Walk-In services date back to the 1990s. Despite growing evidence of their effectiveness in a range of settings, there is scant data about their application and effectiveness in family therapy contexts.

This presentation describes current research comparing the clinical outcomes of two different family therapy services at The Bouverie Centre: The Walk-In Together (WIT) program, which offers timely access to a single online session of family therapy, and Bouverie’s standard service, which involves a waitlist and multiple sessions of family therapy. We will share preliminary findings from a 12-month follow-up study examining the factors impacting the choice of service, and the clinical and relational effectiveness for participants in each program. We also offer reflections on the utility of the model in a range of service contexts.

This research is being conducted as part of a Medibank-funded PhD project, and is a first step in understanding the evidence for timely, accessible single session family therapy interventions.
