Research centres

The Department hosts and partners with a number of research centres and specialist units.

Centre for Health Communication and Participation (CHCP)

The Centre for Health Communication and Participation (CHCP) was established in April 2009, springing from the work of the Cochrane Consumers and Communication Review Group (CCCRG). The Centre's mission is to improve health communication with and participation by consumers and carers through evidence-informed policy and decision making.

Public Health Palliative Care Unit

The Palliative Care Unit was established as a demonstration project in 1998 through funding from the Victorian Department of Human Services. The unit provides health promotion education and training, community development, direct service and research for clinical palliative care.

Centre for Ergonomics and Human Factors

Established in 1987, CEHF has been a member (under designation) of the World Health Organisation Network of Collaborating Centres in Occupational Health since 2006. The CEHF research program and associated consulting activities are characterised by a broad, socio-technical systems approach to assessing and managing workplace health and safety risks.

The Australian Prevention Partnership Centre (TAPPC)

The Australian Prevention Partnership Centre (TAPPC) is based at the Sax Institute. Funded by the NHMRC, industry partners and government agencies it is a national collaboration of researchers, policy makers and practitioners who are working together to identify new ways of understanding what works and what doesn’t to prevent lifestyle-related chronic health problems in Australia.
