Body Image, Eating and Weight Research Team (BEWT)

Body Image, Eating and Weight Research TeamThe Body Image, Eating and Weight Research Team (BEWT) brings together clinicians, researchers, students and consumers with an interest in psychological aspects of feeding, eating, weight and body image concerns and their biopsychosocial comorbidities (e.g., diabetes, depression, stigma).

Our goal is to improve the lives of individuals with eating, weight and body image concerns.

Our team works together to improve understanding of:

  1. psychological correlates of feeding, eating, weight and body image concerns
  2. psychological outcomes of feeding, eating, weight and body image prevention and treatment programs
  3. efficacy and effectiveness of psychological prevention and treatment programs for feeding, eating, weight and body image concerns
  4. mediators and moderators of psychological interventions for feeding, eating, weight and body image concerns
  5. assessment of feeding, eating, weight and body image concern constructs
  6. how ethical, health, and environmental concerns shape people's food choices

The team is led by Associate Professor Leah Brennan from La Trobe University, and Dr Xochitl de la Piedad Garcia from Australian Catholic University, and includes Dr Matthew Ruby and Dr Sian McLean from La Trobe University. We work closely with a range for clinicians, researchers, students and consumers.

Together we:

  • Conduct clinically relevant research
  • Provide evidence-based treatment
  • Train clinicians to deliver best practice care in real world settings
  • Advocate for individuals with eating, weight and body image concerns
