About the Department

The Department of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences has a long and proud history of teaching science courses in regional Victoria. We continue to offer high quality courses in pharmacy and areas of molecular science and human biosciences. This tradition is coupled with a modern and innovative approach to teaching and research. We take pride in producing highly employable graduates, who excel throughout the region, Australia, and the world.

In addition to a strong presence on the Bendigo campus, we also have staff who teach into human bioscience subjects on the Albury-Wodonga campuses, and also at Shepparton and Mildura campuses. We provide extended human biosciences teaching at the Bendigo campus using purpose-built laboratories located in the Applied Sciences buildings.

Current, and very active, research areas encompass a range of disciplines. These include pharmacy practice, pharmacogenomics, microbiology, pharmacology, anatomy, formulation of herbal medicines, and areas of environmental science. We supervise students at honours, masters and PhD level in projects across all of these areas. Our research labs are modern and well-equipped with a range of modern instrumentation.

The Department is situated within the School of Molecular Sciences and is based in the La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science (LIMS).
