First Cloud Technology degree

Amazon Web Services (AWS) today announced that online learning provider, Didasko, has developed Australia’s first Applied Cloud Technology Bachelor’s Degree in collaboration with AWS, and La Trobe University, one of the largest providers of higher education to regional Victoria.

The demand for AWS Cloud skills has been growing rapidly in Australia and across the world. To help address cloud skill gaps, AWS worked with Didasko to design the degree program that is delivered entirely online to accommodate full-time and part-time learners. The learning content utilizes materials adapted from AWS global programs, which include resources from AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner and AWS Associate Solutions Architect certifications, as well as cutting edge technology on machine learning, big data analytics and cybersecurity. The first intake has commenced as of August 2018, and subsequent intakes will continue on a monthly basis.

The three year bachelor degree program provides working students with the flexibility to manage their learning needs in modules. Students will attain an applied diploma after completing the first year, an associate degree after the second year, and a full Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Cloud Technology upon successful completion of the three-year program.

“When we speak with our customers across public sector, start-ups, small-to-medium business and large enterprises, there is one common theme – they are all looking for talent skilled in applying AWS services to help them remediate technical debt and drive innovation,” said Peter Moore, Regional Managing Director for Asia Pacific and Japan, Worldwide Public Sector, Amazon Web Services. “Through the launch of their Applied Cloud Technology Bachelor’s Degree, in collaboration with an established online learning provider like Didasko, La Trobe University is helping to cultivate the AWS Cloud skills that employers are seeking – in Australia and beyond.”

Professor John Dewar, Vice Chancellor and President of La Trobe University said, “We are excited to bring this innovative degree offering to students within Australia and internationally, working closely with AWS to meet a critical workforce need. La Trobe is highly focused on delivering course opportunities that are closely connected to future careers in a rapidly transforming workforce.”

Andrew Horton, Group Managing Director, Didasko said, “We evaluated all major cloud providers, and chose to work with AWS on the basis that they are at the forefront of cloud-based innovation and are deeply committed to addressing the profound skill shortage facing the sector.”

The AWS global programs supporting the La Tobe University Applied Cloud Technology Bachelor’s Degree are adapted from AWS Educate and AWS Academy. AWS Educate provides a robust set of self-paced online learning content, Cloud Career Pathways, and AWS Promotional Credits for participants to acquire the latest cloud computing skills. AWS Academy offers higher education institutions authorized AWS Cloud curricula specifically designed for academic purposes.
