Sunraysia football netball scholarships

Two local students have been awarded $3,000 scholarships from the Sunraysia Football and Netball League under a new partnership to support young people studying at La Trobe University.

Liam Carfora, studying Occupational Therapy, and Letesha Heeps, studying Nursing, are the first recipients of the Sunraysia Football and Netball League scholarships.
La Trobe University and the Sunraysia Football and Netball League (SFNL) have an agreement whereby the league will award two $3,000 scholarships to footballers or netballers who are playing locally within the league and studying at La Trobe University’s Mildura Campus.

Deep links with local community

Liam and Letesha were presented with their scholarships at La Trobe’s recent annual Graduation ceremony on Friday 6 May.
Letesha plays netball at Irymple Football and Netball Club, while Liam plays football for Mildura Football and Netball Club.
Head of La Trobe’s Mildura Campus, Dr Deb Neal, said this new partnership with the SFNL demonstrates the deep links the University has in the local community.
‘We were absolutely delighted that the SFNL wanted to come on board and support local students studying at University.

University of choice for sport

‘La Trobe University has a vision to be the university of choice for the study and participation in sport from a grass roots level all the way to the elite athlete level.  We look forward to working more closely with SFNL to develop this partnership further,’ Dr Neal said.
SFNL President Ros Milverton said the league pursued the agreement to celebrate players who are committed to their community and chooe to stay local.
‘The Sunraysia Football Netball League was more than happy to financially support two students studying at La Trobe’s local campus in Mildura.  Letesha and Liam have both demonstrated a commitment to the league through sporting success and volunteering,’ Ms Milverton said.
