The players celebrated a decisive grand final win, with a finishing 4 – 1 scoreline. Their flawless season is a superb record in any sporting context and highlights the positive impact of the support of professional sporting body - City Football Group. The team cited this relationship as a key to their success and a major breakthrough in women's football and women's sport in Australia.
Vice Chancellor Professor John Dewar was at the game.
"La Trobe University is extremely proud to call Melbourne City Football Club its partner, and warmly congratulates all members of the Women's team on their win. They have provided a great demonstration of skills and character both on and off the field," Professor Dewar said.
The unique alignment of La Trobe with Melbourne City Football Club as an exclusive education partner was forged in 2011. It provides recruitment of aspiring and elite players to study at La Trobe, student internships, industry research and significant exposure of the University and its people to key stakeholders.
The partnership with Melbourne City FC is also significant to La Trobe's strategy and vision to be the number one University for Sport in Australia. We are on track to achieve this goal. The University's sports research is rated well above world standard; and our final first preferences for sport-related courses is growing strongly each year.
Congratulations again to Melbourne City Football Club on their Grand Final W-League win and we wish the men's team all the best for the remainder of the season.
