Life sciences research in top 200

La Trobe University’s research in the  life sciences has been ranked in the top 200 in the world.

The University was placed at an estimated 193 in the world under the respected Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) Field Ranking.

It is the first time the University’s research activity has been ranked in the ARWU disciplinary breakdown. Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar said the result was further proof of the  world class work being undertaken by La Trobe researchers.

“La Trobe University scientists are at the forefront of research and discovery in a wide range of fields. They are producing high quality, high impact work that is advancing knowledge, boosting jobs and the economy, and helping make the world a better place,” he said.

Under the ARWU ranking Life Sciences includes:

·         Biology & Biochemistry
·         Molecular Biology & Genetics
·         Microbiology
·         Immunology
·         Neuroscience
·         Agricultural Sciences
·         Plant & Animal Science
·         Ecology/ Environment

La Trobe recently jumped an estimated 200 places in the overall ARWU University ranking – to be placed 336th in the world – the best ever outcome for the University in this leading international survey.

The University is now ranked in the top 400 on all three major international ranking measures.

The ARWU is the oldest and most respected of world university rankings. It uses only data collected from independent, publicly available and verifiable sources.
