A leader in maths and computer sciences

La Trobe University mathematics and computer sciences have been ranked 8th in Australia – and 165th globally – in this year's CWTS Leiden rankings, which were released last Friday.

Senior Manager, Research Performance, Alistair Duncan says the multidimensional Leiden rankings are regarded as the 'rankers ranking'.
They include 23 Australian and 750 major research universities world-wide.
They put La Trobe maths and computer sciences ahead of the University of Melbourne, Newcastle, Macquarie, and Monash.

In biomedical and health sciences, La Trobe ranked 234th globally and 12th in Australia.

The survey is published by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies at Leiden University, Netherlands' oldest university.
In the latest Times Higher Education World University Subject Rankings,  La Trobe featured among the top 100 universities, at number 99, in the arts and humanities,  while in last month's QS World University Ranking, La Trobe was also in the top 100 in history (6th in Australia), sociology (7th), and communication and media studies (9th).
