‘La Trobe University Bendigo is quickly becoming a leading regional higher education hub,’ says Andrew Skewes, Director, La Trobe University Bendigo. ‘Under the University’s Future Ready: Strategic Plan 2013 – 2017, the student population at the campus will grow to around 7000 students.
‘We are strengthening our engagement with the community through game changing partnerships with local organisations and we are striving to develop and promote educational opportunities throughout the region.’
Festivities begin on Tuesday
O-Week will take place between Tuesday 26 February and Friday 1 March and Mr Skewes says that it is the perfect time for students to acquaint themselves with the campus, their fellow students, the City of Greater Bendigo, and access information sessions on life and study at university.
It will begin on Tuesday with an official Civic Welcome from Greater City of Greater Bendigo Mayor Lisa Ruffell, John Traynor, President of the Bendigo Student Association (BSA) and Mr Skewes.
Following the Civic Welcome, there will be a market day at which students can get acquainted with the many clubs and societies on campus, local sporting and community groups and businesses providing services to students. The BSA will also provide free lunches for students throughout O-Week.
Drapht to headline the O-Week Launch Party
‘We are excited that popular Aussie hip hop artist Drapht will headline the O-Week Launch Party, which is an all ages music event,’ says Ms Jenelle Holmberg, BSA Clubs and Events Manager.
‘With the exception of the Mystery Bus Tour, all events scheduled for O-Week, including the Launch Party and performance by hypnotist Bill Wheeler, will be all ages events.
‘When you have got new students who might be the first in their family to go to university or are not from Bendigo it is important that they have every opportunity to make friends and establish a support network.’
