Dr Neal has been working for La Trobe University for over 20 years as the Coordinator for Faculty of Education at the Mildura campus. She has led the development and growth of the Bachelor of Education which offers all four years of the degree on the Mildura Campus.
Dr Neal said she was very excited by the new role.
‘Having a university campus in Mildura supports the building of a strong, resilient and healthy community. I am committed to Mildura and the wider community having access to high quality higher education that is responsive to local needs,’ Dr Neal said.
‘I have been very privileged having a career in education because I have seen what education can do for people and how their lives and the lives of their families are significantly changed through a university education.
‘We are very fortunate in Mildura to have SuniTAFE and La Trobe University - two strong tertiary institutions that are co-located. I hope we can build an even stronger partnership between our two organisations to offer the community a raft of opportunities as the Government encourages closer alliances,’ she said.
Dr Neal was awarded her PhD in 2011. Her research examined the impact of university-school partnerships on the quality of the teaching practicum experience.
She is currently working with local Primary Principals in the Sunraysia district to develop the concept of teaching schools. This means less time in the lecture theatre and more time in the classroom for Mildura’s education students.
