La Trobe celebrates success stories

La Trobe University is recognising the dedication and commitment of students at the 2013 Bendigo Campus Prize Ceremony.

Celebrations and congratulations

This Thursday, 1 August, students and their families will celebrate their success as 134 prizes and scholarships are presented at the Capital Theatre, Bendigo. Many students are being acknowledged for academic success in the face of personal challenges.

Prizes and awards for 2012 and 2013 will be awarded to students by La Trobe University Regional Deputy Chancellor, Richard Guy, OAM.

Mr Robert Stephenson, Acting Director, Bendigo Campus said financial pressures and juggling study, work and family often created challenges for students that went beyond academic requirements.

‘Many of our students do not come from a privileged background. Some are the first in their family to attend university and the majority of our students have relocated to study at La Trobe University Bendigo.

‘It is great to see our community getting behind our students, extending a helping hand to them and investing in another’s future.

‘We are really pleased to be able to facilitate these connections through scholarships, bursaries, awards and prizes,’ he said.

Mr Stephenson thanked all donors and congratulated students on their achievements. A reception for senior La Trobe University staff and their guests will take place prior to the event at 5.35 pm.

The Bendigo Campus Prize Ceremony will take place at the Capital Theatre from 6.15 pm on Thursday 1 August.
