Info, tours, food and fun at Open Day

Information, tours, displays, demonstrations, food and entertainment will be amongst the activities that members of the community can enjoy when they visit La Trobe University’s Bendigo Campus for Open Day on Sunday 18 August.

Stay Near Go Far – A Local Choice, A world Class EducationEvents and forums in the action-packed day will be both informative and fun, with four welcome marquees dotted around the campus, roving entertainers, a vintage photo booth, expo sites and a free BBQ from 10am onwards.

Acting Campus Director, Robert Stephenson said this is a great opportunity for community members to see what their local university has to offer.

‘Visitors can check out research and teaching facilities such as the model pharmacy and the cell biology labs, while those interested in civil engineering can attend hourly sessions of metals and concrete testing as well as surveying and GPS demonstrations in the foyer of the engineering building,’ he said.

The main hub of activity is in the Student Union and 80 student volunteers will be available on the day to help prospective students and their families find their way around the campus.  Staff from across the University will be on hand to provide information on courses.

‘As well as course-specific information provided by each faculty, visitors will have access to a range of information sessions on topics such as fees, HECS, VTAC, the various pathways to university, student exchange opportunities and much more,’ said Mr Stephenson.

Campus tours include the new state-of-the art La Trobe Rural Health School building, Nancy Long Dining Hall and new student accommodation.

‘There’s something for everyone on Open Day, whether you’re a high school student, a parent, someone thinking about postgraduate or mature age study, or an interested family member who wants to get to know their local university,’ said Mr Stephenson.

An on-campus broadcast by STAR FM will provide regular updates on activities from 10am until 2pm along with interviews with current students and staff.

‘As well as talking about our fantastic courses and facilities, listeners will gain an appreciation of what it is like being a student at La Trobe University Bendigo.’

La Trobe University will provide a free bus service, which will run every half hour between the Bendigo Railway Station and La Trobe University, stopping at the Hargreaves Mall and Bendigo TAFE’s Mundy Street campus.
