What is the future of communication?

Bendigo Advertiser Editor, Rod Case and SASI Marketing and Communications Director, Peter McGregor will join key La Trobe University personnel in a free public lecture that discusses threats and opportunities to communication in the future.

typewriter-key-standardEvent host and Senior Lecturer in Strategic Communication at La Trobe, Dr Sue Gillett said good communication is always important and Australia is at a critical moment in communication.

‘We are facing challenges from new technologies, a transformation of traditional professional media careers and a change in relationships between marketing, public relations and media ownership,’ said Dr Gillett.

‘As a consequence, the industry is in a state of restructure. Consumers of media are using innovative and immediate modes of interaction, which has given rise to questions on the fate of print journalism and talk of the need for internet regulation.’

Dr Gillett said that the evening will provide much food for thought and will also celebrate the official launch of La Trobe University’s StratCom Club, a professional development group for strategic communications students and others interested in the subject.

La Trobe University presenters are Kevin Brianton, Lecturer in Strategic Communication, and Bendigo campus director, Andrew Skewes.

This free event has been organised by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. It will take place at La Trobe University Visual Arts Centre in View Street and commences at 6pm on Thursday 16 August. RSVP by email to jessica.white@latrobe.edu.au.
