Sustainability Report wins another award
La Trobe University's 2010 sustainability report, Responsible Futures, received the 'Best First Time' sustainability report award from the corporateregister.com global sustainability reporting awards announced at the Royal Society in London last week.
The Report, believed to be the only GRI compliant sustainability report released by a university worldwide that is externally assured to the AA1000 assurance standard, received more votes than any other first time (and generally much lengthier) sustainability reports entered, including those of Bloomberg LP, the Landmark Group and GS Engineering and Construction Corp.
Professor Carol Adams, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Sustainability) said the award highlighted to an international audience the sustainability efforts of the University.
‘Our intention is to become one of the world’s leading universities in sustainability and we are pleased that this award highlights to an international audience the hard work done by many people at La Trobe. The award underscores the need to continue our efforts on sustainability issues as our latest 2011 sustainability report Creating Futures shows we still have many areas of poor performance.’
The awards, voted on by the public, are run by the independent corporateregister.com, the world’s largest directory of non-financial reports, with almost 40,000 reports from 9,000 companies across 160 countries.
In addition, the University's Responsible Futures report was entered in a number of other categories, competing with established reporters, and was ranked:
- 6th for relevance and materiality coming just behind Novo Nordisk and Royal Dutch Shell
- 6th for openness and honesty ahead of organisations such as Dell Inc and Coca Cola
- 5th for credibility through assurance beating, amongst others, British American Tobacco.
