Shepparton accounting student wins prize

Accounting students at La Trobe University’s Shepparton campus are winning all round with the majority finding work in their field whilst still studying – and for local student Sharon Andronaco, winning a Westpac Banking Corporation Prize was an added bonus.

SharonOn July 4 the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law held their annual Awards and Prizes Ceremony at the Hilton on the Park for students of Business and Economics.

The yearly ceremony is an opportunity for the Faculty to recognise the high quality of our students' work and to acknowledge the generosity of the prize donors. They are also a great opportunity for us to engage with members of industry and the business community.

This year Shepparton student Sharon Androcano was one student recognised by the Faculty with the Westpac Banking Corporation Prize, awarded to the student who achieves the highest result in the subject Management Accounting and Control.

‘I was extremely proud to be recognised by the Faculty, La Trobe has afforded me so many opportunities that I otherwise would not have access to’ says Sharon.

‘Being able to work locally in Accounting while studying has broadened my understanding of the subject whilst giving back something to the local community.

Sharon is one of many students studying Accounting/Business at La Trobe while working locally in the same area. At present there are approximately 180 students studying Accounting or Business at the Shepparton Campus.

Most current students are working in the field of accounting or business while studying full-time or part-time at the Shepparton Campus of La Trobe University, either in day classes or evening classes.

‘La Trobe has very strong links with the business and government organisations within the Shepparton region.’ Says Shepparton’s Senior Lecturer in Accounting, Sue Nalder.

‘The concept of working in the area while studying gives the graduates a head start for when they complete their degrees.’
