Michael Malthouse: Leadership, media and reputations

Malthouse-standardThe last 30 years have seen rapid and dramatic changes in both the media landscape and sport in Australia; tighter news cycles, closer scrutiny, more information, twenty-four hours a day.

In this fascinating lecture, Ann Jones, ABC Central Victoria Mornings program presenter will be joining Mr Malthouse to discuss sports and his experience in the media. Mr Malthouse’s expertise from both sides of the media spectrum will provide insights into leadership and how the modern media has changed and how it, in turn, has changed him.

‘Michael Malthouse is often in the spotlight as a football legend. He is also a smart sports commentator so he is in the perfect position to share his insights from both perspectives,’ said Dr Sue Gillett, Strategic Communication Course Coordinator.

‘As well as being of interest to members of the community, students in our Strategic Communications course who are interested in a sports-related or communications-related career have much to gain from this lecture.’

Michael Malthouse is La Trobe University’s Vice-Chancellors Fellow and the new coach of the Carlton Football Club. He is a three-time premiership coach, media personality on Prime 7, 3AW and The West Australian, a father and author of the book The Ox is Slow but the Earth is Patient.

The Arts and Planning Forum Series is a series of free lectures that promote ideas in the humanities and social sciences disciplines.
