La Trobe and TAFE partner with MoU

La Trobe University Albury-Wodonga and Wodonga TAFE have formed a five-year partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar’s visit to the campus last Friday.

John DewarProfessor Dewar met with the Director of Wodonga Institute of TAFE, Michael O’Loughlin, to sign the MoU acknowledging the importance of this relationship for further education and engagement within the community.

‘Strengthening the relationship with Wodonga TAFE supports La Trobe’s commitment to engage with our communities and I am really pleased that we are able to further build pathways, which provide all students with the opportunity to pursue quality education,’ says Professor Dewar.

Part of the enhanced partnership will be the pursuit of complementary programs, professional development activities and research opportunities between both organisations.

Both institutions will partner in joint activities to support the local region. This includes the delivery of student programs and the identification of funding from Federal, State, philanthropic and other sources to support joint initiatives.

The proximity of the two campuses also allows the opportunity for communal use of facilities such as the library, infrastructure, accommodation, student support, ICT resources and for joint programs and the joint delivery of various courses.

A joint steering committee currently exists which will oversee the development, operation and implementation of all agreed projects arising from the MoU and will provide a vehicle for La Trobe University and Wodonga TAFE to work collectively in responding to the needs and interests of the community.

‘La Trobe University looks forward to developing greater access for students and pursuing strong collaborative relationships, as a positive step towards providing a greater range of educational and community services,’ says Professor Dewar.
