Ideas and Society with Mick Malthouse

Mick Malthouse, one of the most successful coaches in the history of the AFL and Vice Chancellor’s Fellow at La Trobe University, will think and talk football at a special Ideas & Society Program.

ideas-society-thinking-footballIn conversation with Martin Flanagan, a respected senior sports journalist at The Age and author of The Game at Time of War and Richo, the discussion is likely to cover a wide range of topics and reflections.

Professor John Dewar, Vice Chancellor, La Trobe University will chair Thinking Football: Mick Malthouse on Tuesday 7 August.

Mick Malthouse was appointed a Vice-Chancellor’s Fellow this year after 40 years experience in professional football. His role is to lead, develop and support the implementation of leadership development and sports initiatives within the University and across stakeholder groups.

As a leader and mentor, Mr Malthouse is working closely with staff, students and the community and will lead the development of the sport at La Trobe University - including programs to support La Trobe's premier academic programs in: Sports Journalism; Sports Management; Physiotherapy; Podiatry and other sports related academic programs.

The Ideas and Society programme is a series of debates and public lectures convened by Professor Robert Manne. The aim of the programme is to bring students, staff and the general public together to consider some of the critical questions of the times and to enliven intellectual life at La Trobe University. Its aim is also to bring some of Australia’s leading thinkers and public figures to the university campus to deepen the understanding of these critical issues.
