Community Goals in the Digital Age

computer-TOMr David Joss, Chief Executive Officer of Community Telco Australia, will present the first of the Bendigo Chapter of La Trobe University’s Alumni Association’s Downtown Lecture series for 2012 on Wednesday 28 March.

In this free public lecture entitled Community Goals in the Digital Age: A Community Telco’s Story, Mr Joss will talk about the benefits to regional communities and to organisations like Community Telco Australia when they structure themselves around community objectives.

La Trobe University Alumni Association Chair, Leon Moulden said this is a not-to-be-missed lecture.

‘Anyone interested in hearing about a local Bendigo success story should not miss this event. This lecture will interest a broad range of people, including those interested in sustainable communities, telecommunications and information technology.’

Mr Moulden said ‘the Community Telco has been able to successfully demonstrate how community goals that are built into an organisations structure can assist in building resilience within local communities,’ said Mr Moulden.

After more than a decade working with regional communities, Mr Joss said he has seen enormous changes.

‘We’ve seen significant changes both in the telecommunication marketplace and in technology.  The one constant is that, regardless of the growing complexity of the ICT sector, when communities think strategically and work together to harness local capabilities and assets, then typically they will succeed in creating the local outcomes that matter to them.’

Mr Joss joined Community Telco Australia (CTA) in January 2005 and was appointed as Chief Executive Officer in October 2010. Launched as an initiative of the Bendigo Bank, CTA is a Bendigo-based national telecommunications franchise group. CTA works predominantly with regional communities to capture expenditure that is locally generated with a view to redirecting profits into initiatives that maximise the social and economic prosperity of the community.

The Downtown Lecture is on Wednesday 28 March at La Trobe Visual Arts Centre, 121 View Street, Bendigo at 6.15 pm (directly following the Chapter’s AGM). This free public lecture is sponsored by the Bendigo Chapter of La Trobe University Alumni Association and La Trobe University. The Alumni Association welcomes donations to their scholarship fund to assist students at the University. All are welcome!
