Awards and Scholarships

The Annual Presentation of Awards and Scholarships for La Trobe University Albury-Wodonga campus will be held in the Main Lecture Theatre at the Wodonga campus on Thursday 7 June commencing at 6.00pm.

AwardClose to fifty students will receive awards and prizes presented to them by La Trobe University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar.

‘The occasion is a very important one for the University, providing us with an opportunity to recognise formally academic achievement and to draw deserved attention to the donors of prizes for their significant role in encouraging excellence.

‘All the students whose achievements we are recognising have demonstrated their capacity to excel at the highest level in a university environment,’ says Professor Dewar.

Many of the awards and scholarships are sponsored by local industry and organisations, including memorial prizes such as the Lisa Malone Scholarship, the Andrea Hore Business Scholarship, the Hamilton-Smith Rotary Scholarship, the Kerry Faul Memorial Prize, the Fleur Connell Memorial Prize and the Trent Jones Memorial Prize.

Of particular note are the achievements of Elspeth Mildren, Glenn Burr and Sam Sparks, who have won multiple campus and faculty awards.

Third-year Bachelor of Business student, Elspeth, will be receiving three prizes, a scholarship and the Dean’s Commendation.

‘It’s great to see all the hard work you put into uni pay off in this way, La Trobe has been very helpful in supporting me through my studies and also being at a regional campus has been rewarding in that I can talk to my lecturers easily and the class sizes are much smaller,’ Elspeth says.

Throughout her studies, Elspeth has worked part-time for the ATS Accountants & Business firm in Wodonga. This has helped her develop a strong understanding of the industry while studying.

‘I have worked at ATS for the past two and half years, and they have been supportive with my study commitments and flexible in giving me more time to study. It has also been great to study the industry of which I work as I have learned more about it and look forward to doing my CPA once I complete my tertiary studies,’ Elspeth says.

‘The presentation of prizes, awards and scholarships to students on the Albury-Wodonga campus is important for several reasons,’ says Professor Lin Crase, Executive Director, Albury-Wodonga campus.

‘It provides an opportunity to celebrate the success and achievements of many current students and recent graduates and reflect on the important links between the local university and the community it serves.

‘We have much to celebrate on the evening and I look forward to watching the progress of the prize recipients in their professions and the contributions they will invariably make to the community at large,’ says Professor Crase.
