Professor Paul Johnson to resign as Vice-Chancellor and President of La Trobe University

Adrienne Clarke Professor Paul Johnson has announced that he will resign from the position of Vice- Chancellor of La Trobe University at the end of 2011 in order to take up the role of Vice-Chancellor of University of Western Australia.

‘Professor Johnson has shown exceptional leadership during his four year tenure and the University is now well positioned with stronger demand for courses including a substantial increase in first preferences’, said La Trobe University Chancellor, Professor Adrienne Clarke.

‘Increased efforts in research have also resulted in strong ERA assessments published in 2011, including Australia’s top score for bio-chemistry.

‘La Trobe’s efforts in supporting regional education have also been enhanced and all this has been achieved while emphasising the fundamental principles of fairness and social inclusion that were the basis of La Trobe University at foundation and for which we are well known.

‘While we are disappointed to be losing such an effective leader, we wish Professor Johnson and his family well in his move to Perth. La Trobe University will now initiate a global search for a new Vice-Chancellor,’ said Professor Clarke.

Professor Johnson will remain at La Trobe University until the end of the year to continue to lead the University through the changes he has initiated.
