La Trobe University’s Mildura campus will start off its first semester in 2011 with two days of Orientation activities for new students on Thursday 24 and Friday 25 February.
Beginning with registration and a free light breakfast, hosted by the Mildura Students Association, orientation commences at 9.00 am on both days and will include activities to familiarise students with their courses, the staff and the facilities.
Over 120 commencing students have already enrolled in the variety of courses on offer at the Mildura campus and invited to participate in faculty specific activities. This year, faculties will conduct their own events like, Law and Management, which will host a dinner where students can mingle with staff, meet local employers and become familiar with the campus.
Neil Fettling, Executive Director of the Mildura campus, says, ‘the campus offers courses in Accounting, Arts, Business, Education, Graphic Design, Nursing, Allied Health, Social Work and Visual Arts and is committed to providing a high quality learning experience, which will prepare students for the many professional challenges in the future.’
Attendees will also get the chance to visit a student services expo with members from organisations like the Mildura Young Professional Network, Mildura Rural City Council, Sunraysia Community Health Services and many more to introduce students to the community support available.
‘Being a smaller campus, students benefit from greater contact with lecturers and tutors and easy access to all campus facilities, which ultimately creates an intellectually stimulating and supportive environment,’ says Mr Fettling.
