LTU Albury-Wodonga 20th Anniversary

Albury-Wodonga Library‘In the 20 years since it became La Trobe’s Albury-Wodonga campus, over 4500 students have graduated and are working in regional Victoria, and all over the country in a vast array of disciplines,’ says Professor Lin Crase Director Albury-Wodonga Campus and Professor of Applied Economics.

‘La Trobe’s contribution to the education of the region has and will continue to make a substantial and positive difference to the lives of people in our community,’ he says.

It has been an exciting year for the campus with many new developments and events. Last month, the official sod-turning for the new $3.4 million Wodonga student accommodation facilities part of the La Trobe Rural Health School project was held and will open in May 2012 providing 28 new student beds.

‘The new residential accommodation will make it easier for people to study at Wodonga and, ultimately, this will help address critical skill shortages in the region,’ says Professor Crase.

A series of ongoing lectures at the campus such as the 2011 Jonathan Mann Memorial Lecture were held which address the needs and opportunities for the region.

The Mann lecture delved into the central issues associated with water resource management within the Murray-Darling Basin though a popular panel discussion hosted by Kerry O’Brien.

Earlier this year, Albury-Wodonga’s Open Day and Sustainability Fair showed the commitment by the campus to its students and the future of the region.

‘This year has shown the continued importance of the campus to the region and the significance of providing knowledge through higher education. The campus has been doing this for twenty years and will continue to be intimately involved in people’s lives,’ says Professor Crase.

The 20th Anniversary festivities will begin with a Rutherglen Winery Tour for Albury-Wodonga’s alumni chapter for all graduates. This will be followed by a Community Reception and Gala Dinner for alumni, staff, students and prominent members of the community.

The University is keen to reconnect with its alumni community and is hosting a Rutherglen Winery Tour for former graduates on the day of the celebrations.  For more details and to RSVP please contact  or phone: 02 6024 9820.
