La Trobe sponsors Victorian Sport Awards
05 Sep 2011
Victoria’s peak sports body vicsport has announced La Trobe University as the first sponsor of the 2011 Victorian Sport Awards, an annual event celebrating significant achievements in Victorian sport.
For the third year in a row La Trobe University’s School of Management will supported the event by sponsoring the award for Best Sports Development Program by an Industry Associate/Corporate Supporter vicsport Member.
This award aims to recognise an Industry Associate vicsport Member (Local Government Authority, Universities, TAFE and School Sport Organisations) who has created a program, project or campaign, or implemented a plan which has provided significant benefit to Victorian Sport. Benefit to Victorian Sport could be at any level and relevant initiatives include research, education, community sport support or facility development.
Senior Lecturer in Sport Management Dr Emma Sherry acknowledges the importance of institutions like La Trobe University supporting the awards and creating beneficial relationships with industry.
‘We are proud to continue our relationship with the Victorian Sport Awards and vicsport’ she states.
‘They provide the opportunity to showcase La Trobe University, in particular the Sport Management degree and Centre for Sport and Social Impact, to the Victorian sport industry.’
The 2011 Victorian Sport Awards Gala will be held on Monday, November 28 at the Crown Entertainment Complex. The event will bring together Victoria’s best athletes, coaches, officials and administrators to celebrate the year’s sporting achievements both on and off the field, recognising success within Australia and on the world stage.
With Sport Management in the top ten courses offered by La Trobe University, the Victorian Sport Awards provides a fantastic opportunity for the University to engage with the sport industry.
La Trobe University’s Sport Management program continues its involvement with vicsport and the Victorian sport industry through committee representation, the Sport Management Program Advisory Group, and student practicum and work placement opportunities.
