Raised in regional Victoria in the town of Ouyen, Courtney Boyd was inspired to become a physiotherapist after completing work experience.  Now in her first year of study at La Trobe University’s Mildura Campus her dream to become a paediatric physiotherapist has been made possible with a $45,000 Macpherson Smith Rural Foundation (MSRF) scholarship.

Courtney BoydCourtney says without the scholarship she was not sure if she would be able to afford going to university and fulfil her goal to improve the health and wellbeing of children in rural Victoria.

‘I am just so grateful to be able to further my education at La Trobe University, and feel so lucky to have been given this chance and I intend to make the most of it,’ she says.

More than 200 Year 12 students applied for one of the three prestigious scholarships which provide $15,000 per year over three years and participation in leadership development and mentoring programs.

Courtney has started her University education on a high with subject excellence awards received throughout all her secondary education and has demonstrated that young people can excel in many areas of their lives.

She is also one of the first people to receive an MSRF scholarship and was honoured on April 5 during National Youth Week where she officially received her scholarship at an event where some of Victoria’s most inspirational rural and regional business and community leaders attended.

The Macpherson Smith Rural Future Leaders Scholarship Program supports and develops future leaders in Victorian rural and regional communities by providing scholarships for Year 12 students who demonstrate leadership potential and a passion for rural Victoria, to study at a Victorian university.
