Branded tram promotes university town

Bendigo’s profile as a university town will be reinforced from Monday 29 November with the launch of a specially branded tram featuring two La Trobe University students.

Rebecca McLean Rory White and Rebecca McLean will be the faces of La Trobe University for the next three years as the tram travels the streets of Bendigo.

Mr White, who is in his third year of a four-year Bachelor of Human Services/Master of Social Work, said his friends are highly amused at the prospect.

‘People who know me didn’t believe I would ever go to university so they think it’s really funny that I’m going to be pictured on the tram. My friends say it’s a classic,’ said Mr White.

Ms McLean graduated in May this year with a Bachelor of Education and is currently working as a Grade 5 and 6 primary teacher at Wedderburn College.

‘I couldn’t believe it when I was told that I’d be profiled on the tram. It’s surprising and exciting, and certainly something different for a country girl from Rainbow,’ said Ms McLean.

The concept of the branded tram in Bendigo follows the success of a similar venture in Melbourne, which proved highly popular.

The tram will be on rotation with the rest of the Bendigo Tramways fleet for the next three years.
