Students gear up for Uni Games

Between 120 and 140 La Trobe University students have signed up for the Southern University Games to be held in Bendigo from 4 – 7 July 2010.

La Trobe University’s executive director, Bendigo campus, Mr Andrew Skewes says the excitement is palpable.

‘Our students are excited that the Southern University Games are coming to Bendigo for the first time since 2002 and they are signing up to compete in many of the sporting events,’ Mr Skewes said.

‘We are delighted that they are exercising their physical fitness as well as their intellect and we wish them every success in the competition.’

La Trobe University will be represented in a range of sports, including women’s Aussie rules, men’s and women’s basketball, lawn bowls, women’s and mixed netball, men’s soccer, tennis singles, tenpin bowling, mixed touch rugby and women’s volleyball.

‘As the host university, we look forward to welcoming competitors from other universities in the region.’ said Mr Skewes.

The games will be supported by a team of La Trobe University volunteers. Community members wishing to volunteer may send an email expressing their interest to SUG project manager, Ben King, at
