Rural health school to expand

Recruitment for new positions within the La Trobe Rural Health School signals the next stage in its expansion and consolidation in northern Victoria.

doctor-patientThe La Trobe Rural Health School is currently recruiting for academic positions within allied health. Lecturers, senior lecturers and associate professors are being sought to join a committed team from across the La Trobe University regional campuses of Bendigo, Mildura, Shepparton and Albury-Wodonga.

‘There is great excitement about the announcement and advertisement of these positions,’ said Teresa Iacono, who joined LRHS as the Professor and Head of Allied Health.

‘They will enable us to deliver further years of our fledgling courses in podiatry, speech pathology, and paramedicine,

‘It will also open the third year of our occupational therapy program to students who already have a bachelor’s degree as well as consolidate delivery of the four years of the physiotherapy program,’ said Professor Iacono.
Students graduate from these allied health programs with a double bachelors/masters level degree after four years.

La Trobe also offers courses in social work and social policy, nursing and midwifery, dentistry and oral health, which provides students with a wide range of options to pursue careers in the health sciences and serve the needs of rural communities.

Based in Bendigo, these academic positions in podiatry, speech pathology, occupational therapy and physiotherapy will play a key role in delivering La Trobe University health sciences courses across the northern Victorian regional campuses. Recruitment for further positions across all health sciences areas is anticipated for the near future.

New academics recruited to these positions will enjoy the advantages of the considerable Commonwealth investment into the LRHS, with the benefits of state-of-the-art teaching facilities.
