Prestigious post for academic
The recent appointment of La Trobe University academic, Professor Jane Hamilton, to the editorial board of a prestigious American journal will promote the high calibre of academics working in higher education in regional Victoria to a worldwide audience.
The American Accounting Association journals are read worldwide. Issues in Accounting Education -one of the three primary publications of association - selects and appoints board members on the basis of their publications and international standing.
Issues in Accounting Education is highly ranked within the academic world, and is considered one of the brightest and best journals in accounting education. The journal publishes research, commentaries, instructional resources, and book reviews that assist in teaching accounting as well as addressing important issues in accounting education.
‘People are probably most familiar with the concept of academics writing papers and winning grants. Reviewing papers for publication is also a major part of the research process,’ said Professor Hamilton.
Professor Hamilton is looking forward to making a contribution to the journal and the university. She hopes that her appointment will also benefit her colleagues. More junior researchers will be able to observe the development of the research papers, from early drafts through to the finished piece.
’It’s a bit like facilitating a conversation between myself and researchers in the rest of the world,’ said Professor Hamilton.
‘Both the authors of the papers and the reviewers benefit from the journal publication process. It’s a great example of how La Trobe is a making a contribution to the research community,’ said Professor Hamilton.
Professor Malcolm Rimmer, head of La Trobe University’s Regional School of Business and co-editor of the Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources is delighted by the appointment.
‘La Trobe has a strong commitment to its regional campuses. This appointment is a fine example of the high calibre of staff employed by the university to strengthen our campuses in Bendigo, Albury-Wodonga, Mildura and Shepparton,’ said Professor Rimmer.
‘Professor Hamilton’s appointment to the editorial board of Issues in Accounting Education is a fantastic example of the university’s growing presence not only in regional Victoria but also internationally.’
