La Trobe open day
On Sunday 22 August La Trobe University will open its doors for members of the community interested in finding out about studying at the Bendigo campus.
Bendigo campus Executive Director, Andrew Skewes says the day offers a whole host of information sessions, entertainment and giveaways to high school students considering university studies and their parents, family and friends.
‘Practical demonstrations by our civil engineering students and staff, displays in the visual and graphic arts studios and live entertainment are just a few of the many activities that will complement the course and general information sessions on campus during Open Day,’ Mr Skewes said.
‘Many of our staff and current students will be available to answer questions from visitors and lunch will be available from our eateries in the student union or at the Star FM barbecue.’
Mr Skewes added that the popular Bush Tucker lunch introduced last year will again be available in Reunion Court for those who want to try something a little different.
Six student ambassadors have taken on the responsibility of coordinating the activities of other volunteer students.
Nursing student, Samantha Morris – who has helped in other similar activities at La Trobe University - is one of the student ambassadors.
‘It’s good to be involved in things like Open Day. I like helping out and it really does improve my organisational and leadership skills,’ Ms Morris said.
The day offers a chance to win a $500 voucher simply by completing a short survey in the student union.
Star FM will run an outside broadcast from the university throughout the day. Tours of student accommodation and some of the teaching facilities will also run at regular intervals.
Information about disability services or access to the campus for Open Day, including reserved parking, is available from the Equality and Diversity Centre, phone 03 5444 7223 or 133 677 for the National Relay Service Deaf and Hearing Impaired, or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
