Climate change deniers challenged

25 Aug 2010

Lies, damn lies and climate change deniers: What has caused recent global warming? is the topic of a public lecture to be presented by Professor David Karoly.

Power PlantProfessor Karoly, from the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Melbourne, will discuss the two main conclusions from the 2007 fourth assessment report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The findings of unequivocal warming of the climate system over the last 100 years and that human activity such as deforestation and burning of fossil fuels is very likely to have created most of the increase in global average temperatures will be addressed in Professor Karoly’s lecture.

Professor Karoly will present many lines of evidence that supports the IPCC conclusions. He will also discuss the misinformation presented in blogs and by some sections of the media in opinion pieces.

The lecture at 6 – 7pm on Thursday 26 August will be presented live from La Trobe University’s Western Lecture Theatre 3 in Melbourne and by video-cast to the McKay Lecture Theatre at the Bendigo campus and the Main Lecture Theatre on the Albury-Wodonga campus.
