Rise in demand for places at La Trobe
Combined data from the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) and La Trobe show that round 0 and round 1 offers have increased across the campus.
With 118 first round offers, the greatest undergraduate demand is for the Bachelor of Nursing, followed by the Bachelor of Education with 103 first round offers. The Bachelor of Arts (69 offers) and Bachelor of Pharmacy (70 offers) are also popular.
Bendigo campus acting executive director, Dr Andrew Harvey, said the figures reflect VTAC popularity polls data released last week, which show a marked rise in applications to the Bendigo campus from 2008 figures.
“We have increased our first round offers in tourism and hospitality, nursing, accounting, pharmacy, and outdoor recreation education. First round offers alone in the Bachelor of Nursing are up 24% and figures for the Bachelor of Accounting show a 10% increase,” said Dr Harvey.
“Round one offers do not tell the whole story as there are many offers made before round one, and subsequent rounds before the final figures are revealed,” said Dr Harvey.
“However, we know from the popularity polls that our courses are more popular than in 2008, and that demand for Bendigo courses continues to be strong. These results show that the campus is well positioned to grow over the next five years,” said Dr Harvey.
Dr Harvey also said that 39 first round offers have been made for the occupational therapy course, which is being offered this year in Bendigo for the first time.
NB: 1) Round 0 refers to early round offers (usually offers made to promising students before VTAC results are known).
