La Trobe supports fire fundraiser
La Trobe has donated a two-hour reception to aid fire-affected residents
La Trobe University has thrown its support behind the Fight Back fundraising auction to be held on Friday 27 February.
Dr Andrew Harvey, acting executive director of the Bendigo campus, said that the impact of the devastating fires has been felt throughout the University.
‘Staff and students have been affected directly and indirectly by this tragic incident and the University has been quick to provide financial support and services to help them through their ordeal,’ Dr Harvey said.
The Bendigo Campus was also able to provide short term emergency accommodation for members of the broader community who lost their homes. Dr Harvey said the Fight Back fundraiser has allowed the University to become even more involved in the effort to help those in our community who have been affected by the fires.
‘We would now like to make a further contribution to residents in the fire affected areas around the city so we’re offering a two-hour reception package at La Trobe University’s Visual Arts Centre to the Fight Back fundraising auction,’ Dr Harvey said.
The winning bidder will be able to entertain up to 50 guests in delightful surroundings as they enjoy being served delicious hot and cold finger food, soft drinks, beer and wine. The package is valued at $1210.
‘The package may be used to host local fire fighters, the SES or Red Cross volunteers who have done such a tremendous job in assisting our local community in their time of need,’ said Dr Harvey.
Dr Harvey said a local business may bid for the package and use it to host their end of year celebrations. He said the package may be used essentially at the discretion of the purchaser.
