International students welcome
Between 20 and 25 new international students will attend the International Welcome Festival at La Trobe University on Monday 20 July.
Campus director, Mr Andrew Skewes says he is delighted to welcome the students to Bendigo.
Mr Skewes said that increasing local and international student numbers is one of the key aims announced in the University’s recently launched 2009-2012 Regional Strategic Plan.
‘The new arrivals will enhance the cultural understanding between Australians and other world citizens. Their addition to our student body will also be a major step in meeting the University’s aim of increasing the international population by 50 per cent by 2012,’ Mr Skewes said.
‘Implementation of the strategic plan will result in positive outcomes for the Bendigo campus, which also affords many benefits to the community at large. The city is becoming increasingly multicultural and Bendigonians will reap the many social and economic rewards that this brings,’ Mr Skewes said.
Mr Skewes said he is confident that the Bendigo community will extend a warm welcome to the new students.
‘I am certain that the friendliness I have encountered since my arrival in Bendigo will be extended to our international students as they find their way around the city.’
