Mildura Arts Research Studio launch

La Trobe University’s new Visual Arts Research Studio – linked to the heart of Mildura’s Arts Precinct – will be opened tomorrow, Friday, 7 November at 7.30 pm by the University’s Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, Professor David De Vaus.

The building is at 7 Chaffey Avenue, Mildura, next door to the Arts Gallery and the Rio Vista historic home.

La Trobe Mildura campus Executive Director, Mr Kent Farrell, said the University has leased and renovated the former residence following negotiations with the Mildura Rural City Council and the Mildura Arts Centre.

'The property has been redesigned as a home for arts research in Mildura.

'Its interior has been converted into studio space for honours and masters students and opened up to form a direct link into the existing Arts Precinct — which makes this a very special space.'

Mr Farrell said honours students preparing their works for final submission will be exhibiting on the night to help celebrate this important occasion.

Their exhibition will be opened by Mildura Councillor and University Regional Advisory Board Member, Cr Vernon Knight AM.
