Community updated on new course
Community stakeholders will today be briefed on the major changes to health science courses commencing at La Trobe Universitys Bendigo campus in 2009.
Associate Dean, Academic, Dr Kerry Fitzmaurice will present information about the combined Bachelor and Masters degree to be offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences from next year. Under the new program, the majority of students will complete their studies in four years and will graduate with a Masters qualification.
'The change in curriculum will ensure that La Trobe University offers a qualification for the 21st Century. To remain relevant, its important that our courses are structured to meet the increased responsibilities in allied health and the changing professional roles in this field,' said Dr Fitzmaurice.
Dr Fitzmaurice said that the new curriculum will include flexible programs that meet the needs of students and the health sector. Most health science students will complete a common first year that is strongly underpinned by inter-professional learning. The new courses will be taught using an enquiry based philosophy that incorporates the most current innovative, educational methods.
'The new curriculum will facilitate partnerships with the health industry, develop independent self motivated learners and ensure quality of the student experience,' Dr Fitzmaurice said.
