Appointment of Acting Director for Hellenic Centre

La Trobe University Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Tim Brown has announced the appointment of Dr Michális S. Michael as the acting Director of the National Centre for Hellenic Studies & Research (NCHSR/EKEME).

Professor Brown stated that the appointment of Dr Michael is a clear indication of the University's commitment to EKEME and Modern Greek studies at La Trobe University – the home of Modern Greek in Victoria.

"Dr Michael is exceedingly qualified and came highly recommend by his colleagues and associates for the position," said Professor Brown.

'Furthermore, Dr Michael has a along standing relationship with EKEME, having collaborated with the Centre on numerous projects and occasions – including most recently the conference "Cyprus in Transition: Inter-communal and International Relations".'

Responding to the appointment, Dr Michael thanked all those involved in EKEME especially his predecessor Professor Anastatios Tamis who has made himself available for consultation.

"My immediate priority is for EKEME to advance through this challenging (transitionary) period and to solidify itself as a beacon of international research and learning" said Dr Michael.

Dr Michael has been appointed by the University's Council on a part time basis in conjunction with his other commitments to La Trobe's Centre for Dialogue.
