Media Conference in Beijing

During the Senior Delegation's trip to China in early March 2010, La Trobe University held a press conference on 9th March in Beijing with the coordination of the Centre for China Studies and Marketing and Engagement. Journalists form a number of major media including Xinhua News Agency, Xinhua Daily Telegraph, Education Weekly, and Guangming Daily attended the conference.

On the conference Vice Chancellor Professor Paul Johnson briefed the journalists on the strong faculties and research profile of La Trobe University and said La Trobe is in the midst of huge growth with a $288million centre for Agribio science to open next year and a $94million centre for molecular science to open in 2013. Professor Johnson also said that La Trobe will offer more scholarships to encourage student exchanges. Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor John Rosenberg introduced the current courses La Trobe University offers and highlighted cooperative programs with Chinese leading universities, particularly the joint Centre for China Studies with Peking University and Beijing Foreign Studies University and China Health Program. In conclusion, Professor Johnson said La Trobe is on an aggressive mission to become known as the friendliest and most welcoming university in Australia for Chinese students and looking for deeper links with more Chinese Universities in the next few years.
