Connect Mentor Leadership Team
Eighteen current Connect Mentors have recently been appointed to form the inaugural Connect Mentor Leadership Team. Connect Mentors from all five campuses were given the opportunity to apply for these exciting new positions with interviews being conducted over the past couple months.
Thirteen Connect Mentor Leaders were appointed on Melbourne Campus to represent their faculties, the colleges and student organisations, whilst a further two were appointed on Bendigo Campus and one each on Albury-Wodonga, Mildura and Shepparton campuses.
Shepparton Campus Mentor Leader, James, who is also a Student Learning Advisor and Student Ambassador, was thrilled to hear he had been chosen. “I had such a positive experience as a Connect Mentor and saw how valuable the program was, so I jumped at the opportunity to be able to contribute to its development in 2013.”
On Wednesday 19 September on Melbourne Campus, Connect Mentor Leaders organised a Connect Mentor Recruitment BBQ in the Agora. Mentor Leaders eagerly chatted with students with iPads on hand, encouraging them to sign up while lining up for the free BBQ. Eliza (FBEL Connect Mentor Leader), was very pleased with the turnout: “It was great to be able to speak with students in the Agora casually about the program and sign them up. As a Law student I know how valuable it is having something like the Connect Mentor Program or the La Trobe Award on your resume, so it was especially good speaking to FBEL students about the program!”
Connect Mentor Leaders are paid for their services and will continue to take part in recruitment activities over the remainder of the semester, so look out for them as you might find them stopping by at your next lecture. In 2013 Connect Mentor Leaders will assist with training and provide ongoing leadership and support to mentors in each of the faculties and campuses.
