Pilot clinical trial

Victorian Medical Research Acceleration Fund support breast cancer pilot clinical trial

Dr Belinda Parker has received funding from Victorian Medical Research Acceleration Fund (Department of Health and Human Services) to lead a pilot clinical trial using new immunotherapeutic approaches in triple negative breast cancer (TNBC).

Dr Parker’s collaboration with clinicians from Peninsula and South East Oncology and the Hudson Institute of Medical Research, together with a partnership with AstraZeneca/MedImmune, will investigate personalised immunotherapy strategies in TNBC, a subtype of breast cancer heavily reliant on untargeted therapies.

“This funding provides us with a pipeline to take our basic scientific discoveries into the clinic,” said Dr Parker. “Should this small-scale trial show promise, we hope to conduct clinical trials across multiple centres in Australia, with the ultimate goal of reducing patient mortality in TNBC.”
