Vale June Mackey

With sadness, we farewell June Anne Mackey – pharmacist, gardener, traveller and patron of the arts – who graduated from La Trobe University with a Bachelor of Arts degree as a mature age student.

June Mackey trained and worked as a pharmacist, but it was her passion for the arts that brought her to La Trobe University as a mature age student to complete a Bachelor of Arts.

June's love of painting led her to work as a guide at the National Gallery of Victoria for several years, and she continued to attend lectures at the gallery until she passed away in December 2014.

Along with art, ballet and the opera, June loved gardening, swimming and the challenge of a good game of bridge with friends.

June travelled extensively, collecting cloth badges of her destinations, and instilled her love of travel and adventure in her children and grandchildren, from camping in the Rocky Mountains of Canada to an Australian balloon ride with her granddaughter.
