La Trobe Asia will be showcasing the research achievements of La Trobe University working in Asian societies and partnerships.
Academics will be presenting their research from range of disciplines, from politics and sociological studies through to health issues and biomedical sciences.
Two panel discussions will explore developments in the Asian region, with John Garnaut (Fairfax media's Asia Pacific editor) exploring the background on Australia's regional policy and Professor Nick Bisley (Executive Director, La Trobe Asia) and Dr Kumuda Simpson-Gray (International Relations, La Trobe University) taking a forward look at what Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's leadership might bring to the Asian community.
"Australian universities have to begin to develop high quality mutually beneficial research relationships with their colleagues in Asia," says Professor Nick Bisley. "The scale of investment in capacity and talent across the region means it if they don't they will be left behind in a rapidly changing world of research. La Trobe Asia was established to help La Trobe researchers to begin to take those steps."
