A new resource kit is available to help those working with people with disabilities.
Launched by La Trobe's Centre for Sport and Social Impact, it comprises a website and a printed book and is specifically designed for those who facilitate sport and active recreation experiences for people with disabilities.
The kit will help anyone who either volunteers, or works as a program leader or personal assistant, to enable people with disabilities to fully participate in sport and other activities. It is divided into six sections spanning development, delivery and management of sport and active recreation experiences.
'The kit can be used for training programs, and has the added benefit of being an ongoing resource and reference guide for volunteers and staff working in the area,' the kit's author, Pam Kappelides, said.
Ms Kappelides, lecturer at La Trobe's CSSI, developed the new kit with input from People Outdoors, YMCA Victoria, and Sport and Recreation Victoria. It builds on a document written by Russel Hoye in conjunction with the Camping Network in 2000, widening the scope of the previous guide.
