In response to the Victorian government's review of the economic regulation of our water sector ('the Samuel Review'), the Centre for Water Policy and Management has published a short paper on the role of economic regulation.
It draws on events in Victoria and includes:
- a review of the current regulatory framework
- its strengths and weaknesses
- a review of the key parts of the Samuel Review, which proposes a move away from a cost-focus to a price-focus
- a summary and concluding remarks, highlighting the importance of protecting water infrastructure decisions from political pressures.
