From the 30th of September to the 12th of October, twenty students and two staff members from Peking University and Beijing Foreign Studies University were welcomed by the Centre for China Studies and La Trobe University as part of the 2014 Australia China Student Forum (ACSF), which also included 39 fellow La Trobe students.
The ACSF program is a cross-disciplinary, reciprocal short stay program co-hosted by La Trobe University, Peking University, Beijing Foreign Studies University and Chongqing University. It is designed to provide a balanced, cross-cultural understanding on themes and issues significant to both China and Australia while fostering global citizenship.
The 2014 theme is Tradition, Modernity and Globalisation: Cultural Impacts of the 21st Century. The visitors and the La Trobe students participated in a series of academic and cultural activities including seminars, industry visits, a one-day Student Forum and a half-day Student Dialogue.
The Melbourne-leg of the ACSF program was highly successful. All of those involved enjoyed the activities organised by the Centre for China Studies and were thrilled with the rewarding cross-cultural experience they have gained.
In the meantime, our La Trobe students are busy brushing up their Chinese language skills in the Pre-Departure Language Courses at the Confucius Institute before travelling to Beijing or Chongqing in late November!
