Jane Morrow (pictured in the middle, with Helen McLachlan, left, and Della Forster, right) graduated with her PhD in October 2013.
Her PhD thesis was entitled Time to focus on postnatal care: a before and after evaluation of changes to improve in-hospital postnatal care.
This thesis evaluated a major change to maternity care provision at Barwon Health in Geelong. The new care was more flexible, individualised, promoted rest and included focused time for midwives to help support new mothers. The study found overall support for the changes and improvements in breastfeeding rates at six months.
Jane has been a midwife since 1986 and has worked as a midwife in Australia and in the UK across all areas of maternity care predominantly in the birth suite environment. She undertook her PhD while working as a senior lecturer at Australian Catholic University where she remains as National Course Coordinator. She hopes to continue to combine her new skills in research with teaching to promote evidence based practice in the midwifery profession.
Congratulations to Jane for her achievement.
